- The listing aims to boost London's market and support Airtel Money's next phase of growth.
Telecommunications and mobile money services giant Airtel Africa Plc announced plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of its mobile money subsidiary, Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., on Wednesday. Airtel Money intends to apply for admission of its ordinary shares to the Official List of the Financial Conduct Authority and to trading on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. The parent company, Airtel Africa, holds a 77.85% stake in Airtel Money's issued ordinary share capital. Paperwork for the IPO was filed on September 23.
The proposed IPO will be a secondary offering, comprising existing Airtel Money shares sold by current shareholders, meaning no new capital will be raised by Airtel Money itself. Minority shareholders expected to participate include major global institutions such as Mastercard, TPG, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), and Chimetech Holding. The International Finance Corporation has also agreed to purchase $90 million of shares at the final offer price. Upon completion, the secondary offering is expected to give Airtel Money a free float of at least 10%.
The IPO could fetch approximately $800 million, potentially making it London's largest initial public offering since 2021. This transaction is expected to give Airtel Money a market capitalization ranging between $8 billion and $9 billion. For the financial year ended March 2026, Airtel Money reported revenues of $1.35 billion, with an underlying EBITDA of $689 million. Net income for the same period reached $373 million, an increase from $304 million in the previous year.
This listing represents a strategic boost for the London market, which has experienced a prolonged slowdown in new listings and is undergoing reforms to enhance its attractiveness. Airtel Africa expects to remain a long-term strategic shareholder, supporting Airtel Money's next phase of development as an independently listed business. Airtel Money Chief Executive Ian Ferrao highlighted London's deep capital availability and investors' strong understanding of emerging markets, financial services, and fintech platforms. The IPO is intended to underpin Airtel Money's next wave of growth, leveraging rising digital transactions and its significant untapped subscriber base.
Details regarding the indicative price range and the number of shares to be offered are anticipated in early October, with final pricing expected in mid-October. Airtel Money had initially targeted a listing in the first half of 2026 but postponed it to the second half, citing unfavorable market conditions tied to geopolitical events. The company, which has its legal headquarters in the Netherlands and a strategic office in Dubai, serves 53 million mobile money users across 13 markets, processing a total value of $213 billion in the last year.
